Things to lift the January gloom
We have an excellent selection of Leisure Reading in the library - many  of them chosen as Mood Boosting books. Search here for 'Leisure'. There was also an interesting article in the Guardian online yesterday with suggestions for books for teens to read to pick you up when you feel down.

Things about babies

  • Babies learn best when they are sleepy
  • Daytime naps of 30 minutes or more help infants to retain and remember new behaviours
  • Bedtime stories are invaluable for a child’s development

Things creative..ish..
I decided to have a go at book folding last week - here is my first attempt - it may have a future life as next year's Christmas decorations! Please don't do this to your library books.
I used an old copy of the BNF which has to be discarded when the new one arrives. If you always want to be sure of accessing the BNF or BNF for Children then you can download an app for your phone/tablet - you need to have a current NHS Open Athens account to access the information. If you don't yet have an Athens accout which also gives you access to a variety of electronic resources then find out more and apply here.

Things (people) in the library
Chocolate and pumpkin seed biscuits. On a Tuesday or Thursday morning you may find someone sat at Sarah's desk who isn't Sarah...Jac works here a few hours each work processing Open Athens applications but at other times you will find her in Audiology. She has suggested this week's recipe Chocolate and pumpkin seed biscuits and tells us the Audiology team like her biscuits..we have noted the fact that she hasn't made biscuits for us ....but are trying not to feel hurt!

Public Health England has published a support pack for A & E departments 'Young people's hospital alcohol pathway' read it here

Things about CAMHS
The Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust (The Tavistock) and the Anna Freud Centre (AFC) formed a consortium to further develop and refine a new model for CAMHS based on their shared thinking in this area: this is now known as the THRIVE model.
They say:
"We are sharing our thinking as it develops to help inform the current national debate on the future of CAMHS and as a basis for future provision. We are not presenting THRIVE as a tried and tested one-size-fits-all implementation model, nor is the language and terminology for different groups fixed at this point. Whilst AFC and Tavistock do have thoughts on implementation in particular contexts, this paper does not purport to be a how-to guide.
We feel that the THRIVE model offers a radical shift in the way that services are conceptualised and potentially delivered, along with suggestions for how they might be reviewed and improved. Through wider discussion, planning and, in time, the commissioning processes, the model will appropriately undergo refinements anddevelopments as to how it can be applied to local contexts. "

A search for CAMHS on our library catalogue will give you a link to this resource.

Things to make

Although it is a few days late (hope all your decorations are down!) but a special food made in France the
‘La Galette des Rois’ is made for the Epiphany, traditionally observed on January 6th, a biblical date to celebrate the arrival of Magi (also known as the three Kings or the three Wise Men) visiting Jesus in his manger. Find a recipe here. The custom is to hide a little charm or fève within, and the lucky guest who finds it is crowned King or Queen. So when you buy a Galette des Rois in the bakery, a paper crown will be included.
